USA and Israel’s Gulf War against Iran sparks big upsurge of interest in BlastSax sandless sandbags
The USA and Israel’s shock war against Iran in the Persian Gulf has led to a sudden upsurge of interest in BlastSax alternative sandbags.
The pioneering sandless sandbags are used by the military and specialist police forces worldwide and are ideal for blast mitigation.

Iran’s response to the attacks ordered by American president Donald Trump has been to send waves of missiles and weapon-carrying drones against Gulf states, striking in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, with Dubai being a particularly specific target.
BlastSax are in heat-sealed packaging for space-saving storage and rapid deployment so can be taken anywhere very quickly. Once fully immersed in water the special gelling polymer inside the BlastSax absorbs up to 20 litres and retains it to become an instant alternative sandbag.
BlastSax have undergone tough and demanding tests to prove they’re effective at mitigating damage to people and property caused by IEDs, other explosive devices and bullets.
They were devised by Environmental Defence Systems Ltd based in Yorkshire, England, and the company’s special projects manager Jessica Bailey said: “Not long after the conflict began we noticed an appreciable upsurge of interest in BlastSax as they are so quick and easy to deploy.
“In their dry state BlastSax come in packs of 7 which are very light and space-saving to store yet immerse them in water and they rapidly expand to become instant sandbags but without any sand.
“Traditional sandbags take up vast amounts of space in large warehouses to store and need lorries, along with a lot of manpower, to transport anywhere and then deploy so we understand why we are suddenly getting so much interest.
“These are very worrying times with a lot of people, especially civilians, in danger in several countries.’’
